Rise Park Winner!

Tuesday, December 17th, 2013

Rise Park School have announced the lucky winner of the Land Rover mountain bike, and we paid a visit to the school to get an interview from a very excited little boy! Michael Ajaidoo was a very deserving candidate and received a very high attendance score averaging over 98% often being 100%. Michael was very grateful to win the prize… “I was very surprised I won, there were a lot of peoples names in the hat. I was so happy to be able to take the bike home, its a bit big for me but I will grow into it!. I have already let my brother have a ride on it and he said it was a very good bike. My mum and dad are really happy with me and very proud that I won.”

“We see regular attendance as a high priority at Rise Park Primary and Nursery School and have many strategies in place to encourage and motivate children to attend school on a regular basis. We believe that only by attending school can the children make excellent progress and achieve their true potential. We reward children each month and each half term for 100% attendance and monitor their attendance on a weekly basis. The children receive stickers and pencils but the bike was a huge incentive. The children are all in House Teams and each half term the Attendance Cup is awarded to the House with the most points so that all the children are working together.

The bike was launched in an assembly to all the children and revisited on several occasions throughout the two terms that this incentive scheme was running. It was also on display for all the children to see. Mrs Slack put an article on the monthly newsletters and kept it very high profile with the parents/carers.

At the end of the summer term all the names of the children who had 95% attendance and above were put into a hat and the winning name drawn out in a whole school celebrations assembly.

Michael Ajaidoo was the lucky winner!” Karen Slack(Head teacher Rise Park)

We want to say a huge congratulations to Michael and well done for all of the school’s hard work towards the successful attendance project!

Aquinas Foundation will continue to support Rise Park Primary and Nursery School… Chase the Rainbow

Be A Part of The Aquinas Foundation this Christmas!

Tuesday, December 10th, 2013

Since the Aquinas Foundation began in 2012 we have been extremely lucky with the support of our Celebrity friends, sports men and women. We have been successful in organising a number of programmes within a variety of our schools in the East Midlands. We are currently in partnership with some great companies who want to be a part of what we stand for. Because of the nature of our work and what we do, lots of people want to be involved.

Stratstone have made it possible for us to provide Land Rover Bikes to many of the schools we work with enabling the school to run projects which tackle attendance and punctuality. This has proved to be a huge success within the schools with one of the schools having the biggest turnaround from the worst attended school in Nottingham straight into the top 3!

Queens Park Rangers and England midfielder, Jermaine Jenas is the co-founder and trustee of the Aquinas Foundation. Born and bred in Nottingham Jermaine wanted to give something back to the city that he grew up in and where he learnt his trade. Jermaine has worked tirelessly to get the foundation launched. Jermaine will often lead question and answer sessions within the schools and is involved in many of our on going projects.

A massive thank you to Tom Huddlestone for opening the new sports facility at the Nottingham Academy on behalf of the Aquinas Foundation. The Nottingham Academy used to be known as the Greenwood Dale School, which Tom used to attend. To watch footage from the day visit our ‘video wall’.

Sasha Matthews won the Bronze medal at the 2010 commonwealth games in Delhi and has been swimming since the age of 7 becoming professional at the age of 13. Amongst many international event successes Sasha is a European junior Gold, Silver and Bronze medallist. We are proud to announce that Sasha will be joining us for our 2014 project in which 2 children from 10 school’s chosen by us, will win a swimming lesson with Sasha and some of her GB team mates!

This Year has been a fantastic year with some great projects running within schools across the whole of the East Midlands… Attendance projects have been going full steam ahead with schools improving their attendance scores ten fold! We have had many of our schools competing for their school football/netball/basketball teams in Nike kits sponsored by us at Aquinas! and students in some of our individually chosen schools perfecting their singing voices with the help of one of our singing coaches!

We are always welcoming new supporters to our charity and are currently in talks with a number of sporting celebrities from a wide variety of sporting backgrounds. We are also in the process of announcing some new exciting sponsorships, from companies who have witnessed the work that we have been doing within the schools of Nottinghamshire and the surrounding areas. If you or your company would like to be involved in any upcoming projects or events with Aquinas Foundation please visit our website www.aquinasfoundation.com  and have a read of some of our success stories!

Derby Academy were very pleased to have a visit from us at Aquinas Foundation

Jade Heath(senior Consultant Aquinas) Students from Derby City Academy, Howard Jones(Head Teacher) Rosie McLaughlin(Events co-ordinator Aquinas)

The School will be using the two Land Rover bikes for their very own bike club which runs every week for the school students. The pupils were all very excited to see the bikes and were all looking forward to having a go on them!

When talking to the Head Teacher Mr Jones, he informed us that the bikes the school currently use are quite old and have had a lot of use so these new bikes will give the students an extra boost to join the cycling club, keeping active in the coming weeks towards Christmas.

We hope the Derby City Academy continue to enjoy Cycling and look forward to supporting the club for years to come!
