Firbeck Academy Nottingham Results Rising!

Thursday, May 15th, 2014

We have been working with Firbeck Academy for a short while now and have received a testimonial from the school we are thrilled that with the help of the Aquinas Foundation Firbeck’s attendance scores have increased dramatically… we will continue to support the school and look forward to hearing of their future attendance results.

“The Aquinas Foundation approached the Firbeck Academy at the end of the academic year 12/13.  We were offered a Bike which we could use to promote good attendance to school.  Having received the bike in school we took it along to assembly to show all the children.  They were all very excited.  We decided in order for all children to be able to access the draw we would collect the data at the end of each half term and students with 100% attendance would be entered into the end of year draw.

The children understand that if they are absent during any of the half terms they have the chance to start again, which is a real incentive.  The bike is displayed in a prominent position in the dining room which the children use on a daily basis.  Having seen such positive results the Academy has also invested in prize draws at the end of each half term which keeps the interest going.”

“The results have been amazing!!”

During the first half term we saw an increase of 59% more students achieving 100%.

Term 2 an amazing increase – 152%.

Term 3 increase – 47%. Term 4 – 10%.

Pear Tree Community Junior School Launch Attendance Project!

Tuesday, May 13th, 2014

Today was a great day for the Aquinas Foundation… we went along to visit one of our schools, Pear Tree Community Junior School. This is a lovely school and the children are a breath of fresh air. The school hasn’t had much positive press of late and this was their opportunity to show the community that Pear Tree are in the process of turning things around at the school.

They are re-vamping the school library at present along with many other improvements such as playground resources, they have also provided new PE kits for all of the children attending the school. One thing that the Aquinas Foundation have joined forces with the school on is their attendance. Attendance is one of the school’s problem areas and that is where we come in to help. We have provided the school with a new Land Rover mountain bike which they are going to use as an incentive to reward the students who show improvement with their attendance.

Attendance is one of the main problem areas in many schools that we work with and it is for many reasons that individual children sometimes struggle to attend school every day or even for a full week, our scheme has proven to help to attain higher levels and to raise aspirations for the children. Giving them a clear focus and drive in order to go to school every day. When speaking to some of the children they informed me that they had never owned a bike or even learnt how to ride one, so this will be a fantastic opportunity for all of the children who attend Pear Tree.

We will be keeping a close relationship with the school and monitoring the attendance.

Berridge Primary School Say A Huge Thank you to Aquinas!!

Thursday, May 8th, 2014

Last year the Aquinas Foundation made a special visit to Berridge Primary school to present an Assembly to the children in which we unveiled a new Land Rover mountain bike for the school to use in their raffle to raise money for the school fund!. Everyone at the school were thrilled for us to be there and very grateful of Aquinas providing the Bike.

We had a lovely letter sent from the Head teacher;

On behalf of the children, parents and staff of Berridge Primary School, I would like to thank you so much for donating the unisex bicycle to the Christmas fair children’s raffle. It was a much sought-after first prize.

The generosity of Aquinas helped us to raise a fantastic £1268.74 for the school fund. This fund is used solely on Berridge children(for the extras).

The children and their families had a lovely time at the fair last Thursday- we had a record number of visitors and the raffle was a definite success.

Thank you again.

Yours sincerely,

Susan Kirkham(Acting Head Teacher)

We have been working on other projects with Berridge Primary and will continue to give our support. We are very happy that the bike went to such great use and look forward to our next visit!

The Bramcote School Winners Announced!

Tuesday, May 6th, 2014

Aquinas paid a visit to The Bramcote School last week to attend their Awards ceremony. The Bramcote School launched their attendance project last year with the hope that having two new Land Rover mountain bikes as an incentive from Aquinas that their attendance scores would improve. The project ran from 11/11/14 up to 4/4/14 and Aquinas went along to award the winners!

“Cordie’s mum was so excited. She said Cordie had been going on about this bike for some time saying she wished she could win it.  Mum tried to tell her there were lots of names in the draw so she probably wouldn’t.  How lovely that she has.”(Rosie Bosley/Attendance officer)

Junaid from year 10 was also thrilled to win the bike and to be able to take it home forever! he was apparently talking about it all day at school with excitement.

The Attendance project has helped the school to get to the 12th position in the county for Attendance. They have seen the results improve dramatically since the Bikes were taken in to assembly and used for an incentive. Aquinas are thrilled that we have helped the school to reach this position and will continue to work with the school on further projects.
