Reigate School Attendance Project

Wednesday, August 26th, 2015

Reigate School in Derbyshire have finished their very successful attendance project and will be getting ready to re launch a new one next term! Peter Hallsworth the Head Teacher at the school has been working with Aquinas Education for a long time now and we have supported his school with different projects for attendance and behaviour.

He has now moved schools from Ashover Primary to Reigate Primary and we are happy to continue to support both schools on any new projects they have coming up.

Peter Reigate The Aquinas Foundation were there to present the prize and this is the lucky winner from Reigate Primary who won this brand new mountain bike(colour has been changed) for achieving 100% attendance! well done!

We are delighted that the projects that we have been working on within schools have made a real difference to so many children’s lives.

By running these attendance projects we have helped to improve attendance in many of our schools, not only do we help the pupils who actually win the bikes but we give all of the students in school new aspirations and the chance to win which in turn improves attendance and gives them something to aim towards.

The Aquinas Foundation would like to say a huge well done to all of the pupils who achieved 100% attendance at Reigate school this year!

Aquinas visit NUAST to deliver a Social media workshop!

Tuesday, August 25th, 2015

Jack Cole(Derbyshire secondary Consultant) and Max Pembleton(Nottinghamshire secondary consultant) from Aquinas Education paid an important visit to NUAST on their Enrichment Day. They were asked to deliver a workshop, so they decided to focus the workshop on using social media and the importance of E safety whilst doing so.

NUAST is a new, specialist academy based in Nottingham offering the very best educational opportunities for anyone with a passion for science, computing or engineering between the ages of 14-19.

With specialist teachers, specialist facilities and the unique opportunity to work with the University of Nottingham and industry partners at KS4 and KS5, NUAST is the right choice for any aspiring scientist, engineer or information technologists.

Both Jack and Max use social media to the full, blogging, posting pics and videos which all help to put their message out there! a lot of the students ages ranging from 14 upwards were worried about “what happens next??” once they have finished their exams and left college. Aquinas was their to help them to explore different avenues and the way social media, for example, Facebook/snapchat/instagram could be seen as their own personal CV and how to utilise all of these types of social media to their advantage.

Technology is ever evolving and the days of sending your CV via the post are dwindling to nothing. Emailing, Skype, and video links are all used in interview processes and it is important that the students of today are all up to date on this type of technology.

Jack and Max showed the students films which they had uploaded onto their apps such as facebook and snapchat, and asked them to make one of their own (as if they were applying for a job with us at Aquinas Education). This went down very well with the group and we had some fantastic videos to watch, they really did a great job and put a lot of thought into how to make their videos stand out from the rest! we were very impressed.

There was then a discussion on E safety which we believe is paramount. The workshop was a huge success. Max and Jack both had a great time delivering the workshop and came away from it feeling enthused and impressed at what the students at NUAST had added to the workshop!

Southwark School Testimonial

whitegate 2015

It is always very rewarding for us at The Aquinas Foundation when we receive a testimonial from a school we have worked with and it is great to hear of the schools success due to our help…

“We have been able to really increase the profile of attendance and punctuality this year and have introduced a 100% club following the donation of four bikes to the school which will be raffled off at the end of the year. The bikes have got all the children talking about attendance and they are extremely excited to be in with a chance of winning them.

We have also been able to offer our highest attending class a trip to the cinema (a first for Southwark) thanks to Rosie’s hard work. This along with the meal vouchers she has provided have helped to get families just as excited as the children themselves.

Our attendance figures this year are currently up from 95.6% to 95.7%, which doesn’t seem like much but for our school is a great achievement. This has definitely been helped by the support we have received from Aquinas Education and we look forward to working with them more in the future.”
