Jamie

The Bramble Academy in Mansfield had a visit from the Aquinas Foundation to promote the importance of reading within school and at home. We managed to surprise the pupils of the school by taking a special guest Jamie McGuire from Mansfield Town’s First Team with us.

Jamie Bramble AcademyThe Bramble Academy has recently been successful in gaining a grant from the Foyle Foundation to purchase books for the school library and to employ a school librarian. To launch this Jamie McGuire visited children in their classrooms and attended an assembly, answering questions about the importance of reading and about his footballing career. He met the new school librarian, Rachel Stuart, and shared some of the new books that the school has purchased. “Reading is very important. I have to read every day as a footballer. It is an important life skill,” said Jamie.

Jamie Bramble Academy 2As well as attending the launch, Jamie brought in a signed shirt for the school to use towards raising attendance. Every child who gains 100% attendance in the summer term will be entered into a prize draw and have the opportunity to win the shirt.

Jamie Bramble Academy 3The visit was arranged in conjunction with the Aquinas Foundation, whose patron is ex-footballer Jermaine Jenas. Such visits help to raise the aspirations of our children and show them how important reading is in life.

Jamie’s visit had such a positive impact on the children. For someone such as Jamie to come and talk about the importance of reading has such a big influence on them. The shirt he brought will also be used to reward children who have 100% attendance in the summer term, with them being entered into a raffle to win it at the end of the year. We would like to thank him and the Aquinas Foundation for his visit.  Peter Hallsworth (Member SLT The Bramble Academy)
