Pear Tree Community Junior School Launch Attendance Project!

Today was a great day for the Aquinas Foundation… we went along to visit one of our schools, Pear Tree Community Junior School. This is a lovely school and the children are a breath of fresh air. The school hasn’t had much positive press of late and this was their opportunity to show the community that Pear Tree are in the process of turning things around at the school.

They are re-vamping the school library at present along with many other improvements such as playground resources, they have also provided new PE kits for all of the children attending the school. One thing that the Aquinas Foundation have joined forces with the school on is their attendance. Attendance is one of the school’s problem areas and that is where we come in to help. We have provided the school with a new Land Rover mountain bike which they are going to use as an incentive to reward the students who show improvement with their attendance.

Attendance is one of the main problem areas in many schools that we work with and it is for many reasons that individual children sometimes struggle to attend school every day or even for a full week, our scheme has proven to help to attain higher levels and to raise aspirations for the children. Giving them a clear focus and drive in order to go to school every day. When speaking to some of the children they informed me that they had never owned a bike or even learnt how to ride one, so this will be a fantastic opportunity for all of the children who attend Pear Tree.

We will be keeping a close relationship with the school and monitoring the attendance.
